Violoncello, Chamber Music
Artistic Director

Dimitris Karagiannakidis was born in Thessaloniki in 1989. In 2008 he obtained the violoncello diploma in the class of Dr. Russi Dragnev in Synchrono Conservatory of Thessaloniki and in July 2014 he graduated from Hochschule für Musik Saar in Saarbrücken, Germany and obtained the Bachelor of Music with a specialisation in orchestral music, as a student of Prof. Ulrich Voss. He studied String Quartet at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (CVA) in collaboration with the Netherlands String Quartet Academy (NSKA). As a quartet member he has been taught by Marc Danel, Sven Arne Tepl, Eberhard Feltz, Dmitry Ferschtman and Stefan Metz among others. He was at the same time student in the class of Michael Stirling. He is currently studying at the Musikhochschule Münster, under the guidance of Prof. Matias de Oliveira Pinto.

In 2011 together with the pianist Alexios Lizos, he co-founded the cello-piano duo, "Duo Plegma", as a member of which he has performed in various concerts. In October 2017, he performed a chamber music tour with his piano quartet „Quarteto Grecolatino“ in Brazil, where he played almost ten concerts in several cities. During this trip he taught cello in the festival Semana da Música de Ouro Branco. He has given recitals as well as chamber music concerts in Greece, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Hungary and Egypt. He has worked with several composers and premiered many musical pieces.  

He regularly cooperates with Kölner Symphoniker, as a member of wich he recently participated in a concert tour in China. He has been playing with Kamerata Zuid and Het Promenade Orkest in The Netherlands. He performed as a soloist with the String Ensemble "Rotonda" and the Aristotle University Symphony Orchestra. As principal cellist of both groups, he participated in concerts in Greece and Spain. He has played in the Modern Music Ensemble "Ensemble Grenzpunkt" of the Music Academy of Saarbrücken and taken part in concerts of Kammerphilharmonie Bad Nauheim.

 

Ηe has attended courses by George Hadjinikos, Valeri Aimard, Marcio Carneiro, Martin Osten, Mario Blaumer, Dmitry Ferschtman, Fabio Soren Presgrave, Ran Varon, Karoly Botvay, Tatevik Mokatsian, Stefan Litwin and Theo Brandmüller. As a quartet member he has participated in masterclasses with Quatuor Danel, Quatuor Debussy, Cuarteto Quiroga, Vera Martinez (Cuarteto Casals) and Luc-Marie Aguera (Quatuor Ysaÿe).

Furthermore, in January 2015, he was appointed artistic director of the PelionFestival.

He has taught in several Conservatories in Thessaloniki.

 

From 2010 to 2013, he was a scholar of the Greek State Scholarship Institution (I.K.Y.).

 

For a four-year period after finishing the high school, he studied Law at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
