Themistoklis Vagenas was born in Volos, Greece in 1981. His cello education began at the Volos Municipal Conservatory (Greece) under the supervision of professor Margarita Ambraseva. He received his diploma with Undisputed Excellence and recognized Honours, in addition he was awarded first prize.

 

In 2000, he continued his studies at the University of Music Würzburg (Germany) with professor Xenia Jankovic in cello, and with professors Bernd Glemser, Grigori Zhislin and Herwig Zack in chamber music. In 2001, he received the 1st prize at the University of Music Würzburg and went on as the competition winner to play with the University’s Orchestra as a soloist. He participated as solo cellist of the University's Camerata in Mozartfest Würzburg. In 2002, as a chamber musician with his ensemble (string trio) he was awarded a prize from the University of Music Würzburg. 

 

In 2003, he continued his studies at the University of Saarbrücken (Germany), under the supervision of professor Gustav Rivinius, and with the instructor and conductor, Ulrich Voss.

   

Themistoklis Vagenas has actively participated in international seminars, e.g. in the International Musicians Seminar (IMS) Prussia Cove in England with Steven Isserlis.

   

He has also participated in several concerts as a soloist, principal cellist and chamber musician in both Greece and abroad (Spain, France, Germany, Egypt, Lebanon).

   

Since 2008, Themistoklis Vagenas is a Professor of cello at the Volos Municipal Conservatory . He has also taught at music seminars. Lastly, he has recorded and collaborated with composers of contemporary music in Greece and abroad in theatre, silent film and numerous musical productions.
