Sophia Kyanidou

Voice, Opera Performance

Sophia Kyanidou was born in Thessaloniki. She studied at the Vienna Music Academy with E. Caruso (singing), Kurt Equiluz (Lied-Oratorium), Curt Malm (Opernschule) and graduated with a Diplom in Lied-Oratorium and Opera. 

She regularly collaborates with the Greek National Opera (Antonia, Micaela, Gertrude, Echo, Fatima, Contess, Iphigenie, Fiordiligi), the Thessaloniki State Opera (Donna Anna), the Athens Chamber Opera and she participated in several Megaron Productions. She has also sung the leading part in several Greek operas. In April 2010 she made her German debut (Wuppertal) in the leading role in Samara’s Opera La Martyre. In May 2010 she appeared in Berlin Konzerthaus.

She was the soloist in G.Mahler’s 2nd Symphony in the Vienna Konzerthaus and Musikverein. In Austria, she sung among others Donna Anna, Marzellina, Rosalinde, Erste Dame in the Magic Flute, Eurudice by J.Fux and took part in modern productions of the Wiener Opern Theater (the Second Mrs. Kong by H.Birtwistle and La Grande Macabre by Ligeti). She has sung as a soloist in G.Mahler’s 2nd, 4th and 8th Symphonies, J.Haydn’s Die Schöpfung and Jahreszeiten, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis and 9th Symphony, Mendelssohn’s Elias and Paulus and the Requiems by Mozart, Faure and Brahms. Her repertoire includes works from the baroque era until contemporary composers. 

She has participated in Masterclasses with Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Costas Paschalis and Inge Borgh. Currently she studies with the renowned mezzo-soprano Daphne Evangelatos. 

She has taught singing in the University of Macedonia (Thessaloniki, Greece) and many of her students study in European Musical Academies, as well as the Greek National Opera Studio.
